Online dating used to be for weirdos and nerds but today thousands of LDS singles are logging on to dating sites. While it is possible to find Latter-day Saint singles on larger sites such as eHarmony and Match.com, it is far easier to find thousands of LDS singles in your neck of the woods with an online dating site filled with Mormon profiles. Generally speaking singles who are serious about dating and marrying with in their faith, ethnicity, or other distinctly unique groups (such as overweight or deaf) are searching on sites such as LDSMingle or this LDS Singles Dating Site .
With sites such as LDS Mingle you will find that most people on the site already share your same moral beliefs, which interestingly enough is sited as one of the top 5 reasons relationships end in divorce. Despite the sense of comfort in surfing an all LDS site you should still be careful with who, how, and where you meet others.
Don't find yourself guilty of what Elder Dallin H, Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve describes as hanging out. In a recent address to young singles adults he said,
"Knowledgeable observers report that dating has nearly disappeared from college campuses and among young adults generally. It has been replaced by something called “hanging out”. [For] those of us who are middle-aged or older and otherwise uninformed. Hanging out consists of numbers of young men and numbers of young women joining together in some group activity. It is very different from dating.
This tendency to postpone adult responsibilities, including marriage and family, is surely visible among our LDS young adults. The average age at marriage has increased in the last few decades, and the number of children born to LDS married couples has decreased."
Elder Oaks did not, however, pretend that marriage should be rushed, as many now do, but that it should be a goal we are constantly working towards. Even if marriage does not happen until a much later time in life you can always be working to prepare for marriage and becoming a better person. |
